Babies babies babies

Here’s a buddy, @vanweezy’s, take on babies: http://vanweezy.blogspot.com/2008/06/babies-babies-babies.html

That describes Sara’s and my exact sentiment about children when we first got married (we haven’t been married much longer than them, so it was for a much shorter phase).

Then we’d alternate getting baby fever, and finally one day we got it at the same time. Sara went off birth control, and about 14 months later this guy was born.

I’m glad we waited a year to even start trying. Everything about babies is stressful. It turns your life upside down. Parents live shorter lives than those who opt not to … Continue Reading

Enjoy work; Stop sprinting

[Preface: There are at least 4 people who read this blog who could think this post is directed at them. Each of those 4 would be wrong. This post was spurred when a douche at ST told me I didn’t have a “startup mentality” and should be working more like 12 hour days. That wasn’t the reason I quit, but that was the kind of bullshit mentality at ST.]

This post has actually been a few weeks in the making, mostly because I’ve been slammed moving and working and parenting and husbanding and, yeah, for whatever fault you can think of, … Continue Reading

WTB Evidence

I read a post and a thread on Reddit the other day that said that it’s not good to answer Christians with “there’s no evidence for a God” when they ask “why don’t you believe?”

The answer instead should explain all the things wrong with their religion, yadda yadda yadda. So, here’s my answer:

“I don’t believe in a god because there’s nothing that can only be explained by a god. Natural wonders, like life and stars and Neil Patrick Harris, have logical explanations built upon the study of the environment for hundreds of years. Further, groups claiming to know of a … Continue Reading

Goals

On Friday, I had a talk at work (which I’m loving, btw) with my boss. It slightly revolved around goals, but was mostly just laying out how the two of us would work together.

That’s not really related to this post. Actually, it isn’t related at all. Oh well. I changed the subtitle of this blog to be non sequitur, so if you’re reading this, you deserve it.

I’ve often thought about things I’d like to do before I die, and then recently I’ve been thinking more about where the Earth came from and how people get so convinced that someone put … Continue Reading

The Bet

Sara wants to find out the sex of our baby before it’s born. I don’t. So, she and her sister came up with the idea that she could find out and everyone would know but me, and thinks that it will somehow be a surprise when the baby is born.

Obviously, I disagree. I’m convinced there’s no way that I can be kept in the dark for that long. Now, I understand that if I tried to keep myself in the dark, I could maybe lie to myself and stay uncertain, but it’s no longer about that. Now it’s all about … Continue Reading

Tales of an atheist coming out party

Before Sara and I got married, or before we even got engaged, I’d been talked to by several family members (on both sides) about my lack of commitment to God. It wasn’t that I was anti-God or anything; I just hadn’t given it much thought. The only debates I’d engaged in were over passages from the Bible, and the debates centered entirely around a Christian god.

After we got engaged, I decided that I wanted to be a Christian. So, I prayed about it. I read about it. Probably not nearly at the length that other people do, but I did, … Continue Reading
