Yay Obama!

I’ve seen a shitload of negativity on Facebook and Twitter, and figured that there’s no one-liners capable of actually explaining my take on the situation. Actually, to clarify, I’ve seen a shitload of negativity on Sara’s Facebook feed, because I have cooler friends than that. But I digress…

First up, I think McCain actually was a solid candidate. I don’t think the pernicious effects of the religious right had taken hold of him, and I don’t think anyone would question that he would do what he thought best for his country. It was his selection of Sarah “People ride dinosaurs to … Continue Reading

Whoah there Kostards

Your election isn’t being stolen. Calm down. See the burning stupidity here.

This is what happens when you (a) want to subscribe to conspiracy theories, (b) think the GOP is smarter than they are, and (c) are gullible and will read whatever someone writes on the internets.

Let’s take a look at what’s being argued here.
ES&S iVotronics touch screens have already been observed now in four completely separate States, flipping the votes, in the early voting that has taken place to date. Eye-witness reports of repeated, consistent flipping of votes (from Obama to McCain naturally) has already occurred in the … Continue Reading

Ant and the GrassHopper

Meezy forwarded this to me (not in support, probably more in a “oh-holy-crap-people-are-stupid” sort of note):
The ant and the grasshopper
This one is a little different…Two Different Versions!  Two Different Morals!
OLD VERSION: The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.
The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the ant is warm … Continue Reading

Sorry Obama, families are fair game, sadly

It’s a sad state of politics when a candidate is judged by his or her offspring. But it’s where we are. Why? A few reasons, I think:

Candidates have lied to us. A lot. It’s to the point where we don’t knock the candidate’s credibility anymore, we just get frustrated with them for lying. “Read my lips - no new taxes.” “I didn’t inhale.” “I did not have sex with this woman.” “The US shouldn’t police the world.” “Saddam has WMDs.” All of those statements made by presidents, all of them shown to be outright lies. If we can’t trust what … Continue Reading

Isolationism makes you stupid

There’s examples all over the place of isolationism running rampant. From Lou Dobbs whining about illegal immigrants taking jobs to fellow parents talking about homeschooling their kids to religious people getting visibly annoyed when they’re questioned. While the actors in those examples are different, the central tenet is the same: new ideas are scary.

This is a terrible approach, and in my experience leads to slower development. America seemed to develop quickly (relatively) among other countries in the world. This can be attributed to a few things, each of which helps ideas mature and develop faster, like the first amendment and … Continue Reading

I read books: Audacity of Hope

I just finished (like, today; 5 hours ago) Obama’s latest book: The Audacity of Hope.

I don’t really want to do a line by line review of the book, so I’ll just give a few thoughts on it.

I liked it.
Obama talks about issues that affect everybody, but, at least for me, those issues entail and affect more things than I know about. Generally, the way I hear about issues is from CNN or Fox News. When it comes from those, it’s generally made to get ratings and generate anger, since that drives more ratings. Suddenly, issues become 4 or … Continue Reading

Outrageous and unAmerican

I’m not going to spam people with my ACLU emails, so I figured I’d post it here instead.

Subject: Outrageous and un-American

Hey,

Did you know that Congress has signed away our right to privacy?

It’s true! By making FISA law, the President and Congress have made it legal for US agencies to spy on our text messages, email, and phone calls to people outside the US, without any cause, reason or warrant. Does that sound like a right to privacy to you?

Help the ACLU overturn FISA by sharing your message of support now!

Oh noes, politics. Or, why abstinence education is stupid.

I’m not sure if it’s because it’s an election year, or what, but I’ve felt more opinionated about issues lately. Or I’ve just heard more about them and realized the absurdity in the whole debate.

Anyways, a few mornings ago I heard the topic of sex education come up on the radio (Colin Cowherd was on commercial break, so I flipped to that douche idiot station 1300AM). A woman calls in, telling the hosts that she teaches 8th grade, and that abstinence education is important. She explains how she relays the problems of STDs, pregnancy, emotional distress, etc., to the kids, … Continue Reading

John McCain’s gas tax is retarded

First off, I think it’s absurd to give a tax break to Exxon. I hope the prices go up a little more, because it’s going to start affecting their profits, the way people drive, the people who drive, and the vehicles on the road. I think in every instance it’s a better world when big oil’s profits are lower, people drive more safely, kids can’t drive as much, and fewer people are driving clunky, dangerous SUVs.

But taking it on face value, I think I drive more than the average American (commute alone is 75 miles round trip) and I have … Continue Reading
